Into Darkness: Entrevista com o guitarrista Sebastian Längerer

O sucessor de “Killing In Front Of 13 People” (2000) chega com 12 anos de atraso.

Esperamos pelo menos pagar nosso crédito e fazer excelentes shows no Brasil.

MR – Vocês prepararam algum set list especial para esses shows?

E como você vê o line-up atual?

MR – O último álbum de estúdio do Into Darkness é o “Killing In Front Of 13 People” e foi lançado em 2000, numa edição especial em vinil.

Primeiro “Killing In Front..”

Um dia você terá fazer O show, sempre!

Obrigada Brasil e Metal Revolution, SEB/Into Darkness.

ENGLISH VERSION

MR – This is the first time Into Darkness is coming to Brazil. What is your expectation for the shows here?

Sebastian “Sebastard” Längerer: Hi Juliana and Metal Revolution Zine! Yes this is in fact the first show we play on American Continent and on another Continent than Europe, in general. We are very excited but also anxious as we have 2 very very good Pro Bands playing with us: Misery Index and Centurian. We hope that we can at least pay our dues and play excellent shows for Brazil, as we are very motivated and will not fly over to be lame sissies – we wanna kick ass. Also we expect crazy Metalfans over there, who will hopefully bang for and with us to show Germany that Brazil is the Number 1 Metalcountry in the World!

MR – Did you prepare some special set list for these shows?

Seb: Yes we will play 3 brandnew Songs (they will not be on “Dysphoria” but on the new album, we´ll record after the Brazil Dates) and also most of our album “Dysphoria”, which will be released on April 5th on our show in Recife, by the way! How special is that?

MR – The band has gone through many line-up changes. What are the reasons for this and how do you see the bands status today?

Seb: Yes it´s incredible how many struggles we had to go thru with Into Darkness. The Current Lineup with Marco Martin on Bass and Robert Witzel on Drums, is playing since 2 Years. We are all 3 Aries and so this means lots of Energy in ANY direction haha. The only remaining guy since 1995 is me, I´ve tought the songs to so many great musicians and dickheads over this timespan, I can´t count them anymore, sorry…

MR – The lastest Into Darkness studio album is “Killing In Front Of 13 People” released in 2000, in a special vinyl edition. Why did you take so long to make a new album? Is the constant line-up change one of the reasons?

Seb: Yes and No. First “Killing In Front..” was a Live EP and not an album. The latest album is “Dysphoria”, it had been recorded between June 2003 and May 2006 with 2 line-ups in 2 different studios. We had a third recording of this album as a demo in May 2003. Due to the many line-up changes, demotivation and also law problems, we were forced to push back the release up to April 5th 2012! This should be a nice headline right there. It´s very difficult to find skilled loyal musicians in our area, who´re crazy enough to play in a band with me/us and are optimistic enough, to support this 100% nonprofitable Death Metal band, haha.

Our first album is from 1997 and called “Misfortunal Odes in D-Minor” by the way and it was only released as a MC Tape – 1000 pieces sold in all (started with 666 but in the end we had 1000 made). This recording started it all.

MR – What is the release date of “Dysphoria”?

Seb: April 5th, in Recife, Brazil.

MR – In your opinion which are the main changes between “Dysphoria” and the last album?

Seb: There are first of all the Skills. We have enhanced our playing skills (of course) since 1997 and also compared to Dysphoria the new Songs for the coming, not yet named album are also faster, more brutal, more technical, less melodic but yet catchy and with some guitarsoli. You have to figure also “Dysphoria” was written for 2 guitarists on the first recording, then we rerecorded and rewrote the songs as a three piece (one guitar), this is what you will get to hear in Brazil. The new album will be written for one guitar only, so it has to be rawer and also more brutal by nature.

MR – For those who still doesn’t know Into Darkness which are the band main musical influences? And how they appear in your sound?

Seb: Well there should be many many People not knowing us in Brazil (yet). Imagine a german Death Metal Three Piece that comes to play in a Country where Bands like Sepultura, Krisiun, Ratos de Porao, Sarcofago and Nervo Chaos come from? Yes we need to be a little bit different. So let´s say: oldschool Death Metal in the Vein of older DEICIDE, DEATH, SINISTER and MORBID ANGEL pared with some extra Special ingredients like green beards, fuzzy hair, pointy Guitars.

MR – How do you get inspiration to your compositions? And how is the songs made?

Seb: Well mainly it´s personal experiences with death, pain, suffering, irony, cynicism, but also our daily news and history. We only use gore/splatter lyrics in an ironic/cynical way and these lyrics are scarce. It´s more about reality and the cruelty of mankind. Mainly it´s me writing the songs and lyrics, but on the new songs I worked with Robert our drummer and Marco (bass) sometimes fill in some thoughts here and there and also wrote lyrics.

MR – How do you see the german death/thrash metal scene nowadays?

Seb: It´s still there and many many bands keep bludgeoning here and there! It´s unbelievable how many bands there are in Germany! But as usual you have to keep them going… So if you see it from that aspect, you still have the old bands like Kreator, Sodom and Destruction, but on the other hand also never bands like Hatred, Hatchery or The Prophecy 23, keeping the thrash scene very alive! When it come to death metal there´s only two names in Germany people worldwide know: Necrophagist and Obscura… But also Defeated Sanity or Deadborn are awesome acts that´d need more attention.

MR – Do you believe it to be easier for the European underground bands to get promotion through the media and even stage spots, since Europe is the main seat for metal festivals?

Seb: Well everything changed since Facebook, Myspace, Bandvotings and Pay to Play… No one is sure to get anything in the end, as there´s simply too much going on and it´s only the same bands playing. One thing has never changed though: hard work and to sit things out like: Grunge, Metalcore or Gothicmetal and to keep doing what you do the best, no matter what others say. One day you get to play THE show, always!

MR – Last year you toured with Ragnarok and the Brazilian band NervoChaos, do you know any other Brazilian bands?

Seb: Oh yeah ofcourse we´ve played with many Brazilian bands in the past: ofcourse NervoChaos, Fornication, Drowned, Torture Squad, we met Krisiun, Disgrace and Terror, Krophus, Itself and we hope to play with many of them again in Germany or in Brazil! Also we love Ragnarok and hope to share stages with them again I need to try the Elk/Blueberry Sausage haha.

MR – What are the bands plans for 2012?

Seb: Well first: the Brazil dates, that´s the most important thing happening in our career so far. Then the album release of Dysphoria, after that our release party with many cool bands, then we hope to have all new songs done to record the new album this year.

MR – Thank you so much for the interview, I would like to ask you to leave a message for the Brazilian audience. See you soon!

Seb: It´s on us to thank you for the interview and to show interest for real german death metal. Then we have to say huge mega extra thanks to Edu and Nervochaos/Tumba Productions to bring us to Brazil to show you – the most massive Metalscene in the Metalworld – what we are and what we can do. We´re really proud to have been picked out for that Mission and wanna drink a beer with you all and are really, really looking forward to this whole Brazil Tour with Misery Index and Centurian. We hope to get more dates maybe, as we feel we won´t want to go back to germany after this! :)

Thank you Brazil and Metal Revolution, SEB/Into Darkness.
